Native American artist Brent Learned is an impressionist artist from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is an enrolled member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma, and often signs his work with his Native American name, Haa Naa Jaa Ne Doa. His bold and colorful art style is depicted in two main themes: the historically accurate American Plains Indian way of life, and a satirical contemporary take on modern pop-culture influences. His art brings rustic and rural motifs into modern contexts, and reworks paintings by European artists to include Native American subjects. A few European artists include Klimt, Matisse, Monet, Picasso, and Van Gogh. This painting, Indian Gothic, is a reimagining of American Gothic by American regionalist artist Grant Wood.
