The Tejanos are descendants of early Mexican settlers in Texas - whose presence predates the Revolution, the Alamo, and statehood. Their four-century history is one of resilience, deep ties to the land, enduring traditions, and a vital role in shaping the American West and national identity. 

To mark the United States of America's 250th anniversary, the Briscoe Western Art Museum presents Tejano Legacy: Another American Origin Story. Featuring hundreds of artifacts, paintings, and interpretive materials from Spain, Mexico and the United States, the exhibit and book celebrates the Tejano story, illuminates a critical but often overlooked dimension of American's origins, and promotes a more inclusive narrative regarding our shared history.
